For Christmas 2018, we had an extraordinary amount of people messaging our page asking us to help them with the cost of Christmas at the last minute. Either something had happened to them that month to prevent them from buying anything for Christmas or they find themselves suffering consistent hardships throughout the year.
We thought that we’d help you guys to come up with a plan to ensure that Christmas 2019 is the best yet and without having to create needless debt all at once at the end of the year!
The plan? Basically, you spread the cost of Christmas throughout the whole year.
Why Is This Such A Great Idea?
- Well for one, you can spend a little money here and there throughout the year as you can afford it, instead of hoping that you’ll have enough left on your credit card limit by December. You could leave 2019 debt free or at least without having any debt caused by Christmas.
- By spreading the cost over 12 months, you will essentially be able to buy more things because you’ll be able to afford them.
- You can take advantage of offers throughout the year instead of buying everything at full price at Christmas. That means that as well as spreading the cost, you’ll also have saved money.
- Instead of waiting until the last moment when all the gifts are selling fast, you can ensure that you don’t have the panic of not getting the gift that you wanted to get for someone. This will leave you feeling less stressed!
How Should I Approach This 12 Month Plan?
First of all, you’ll need to follow our Christmas page, where we will be posting reminders, bargains and helpful tips for things to buy each month so that you can be as prepared as possible for Christmas.
Secondly, you should make your own list of things that you want to get for next Christmas. We can help with that. Again, keep an eye on the page for some great suggestions for Christmas shopping lists.
Storage is important!
As you’ll be buying things throughout the year, it’s important to have some storage solution to keep everything tidy and out of the way through the year. If you have loft or garage space, we really suggest that you put things in there. As long as there are no leaks under you bath, you could take the panel off the side of your bath and put things under there if you are stuck for space. Under bed storage is a great way to make the most of the space under your furniture that you don’t use. On top of wardrobes and in the base of wardrobes are also great places to put your purchases.
Whilst this plan may not work for everyone, it can be a great way for some people – especially families – to spread the cost of Christmas and reduce the stress that comes in Autumn when they find themselves struggling to make ends meet when they just want to make a great Christmas for their children.
