A new scam is on the loose, where scammers are calling people – introducing the company they work for then asking if you can hear them ok. DONT ANSWER “YES”….

Digital voice signatures have been used by telesales companies for years and in most cases form part of a legitimate contract. But this is hokey. If someone asks “can you hear me” you should put down the phone.

If you answer “yes” – your recording may be manipulated in order to commit fraud against you. The scammers can make you sound like you are agreeing to a big purchase.  That simple word “yes” in your voice could mean that the scammer could fraudulently use your credit card details and other such financial information.  When the credit card company hears the recording playback of you saying “yes”, this will be proof that you have given authorisation for your account information to be used and in this situation, it is very difficult to argue a case to reverse any charges.

If in doubt – put down the phone. If an offer seems too good to be true – it usually is.

If someone calls and asks, “Can you hear me?”, hang up the phone immediately. A major phone scam from the US is set to cross the pond and hit the UK imminently. But police and call-blocking companies are warning the public about the dangerous phone call in the hope of preventing innocent people falling victim to the scammers.
