What it’s really like at the Winter Gardens FanZone

Today was England’s opening game in the World Cup against Iran. We went to the Winter Garden’s World Cup Fan Zone to see what it’s actually like inside.

The space has been set up in the Olympia. The entrance was made to look like a football tunnel as you entered the large room

Once inside the vast space it was reassuring to see that the room had started to fill from the front but there were still spaces for people to arrive late if required.

If you are planning to attend this space for any of the upcoming games – please be aware that tickets are being allocated FAST and some events in this room are already booked up – like the USA game on Friday. All Sold Out. Read on for more info about booking.

Atmosphere

Inside it was very much like a darts tournament type atmosphere. Such a vast space that was more than half full – not bad for the opening England Game.

The tables are set up along the length of the room with the big screen TV at one end. It had kind of a Oktoberfest Vibe to be honest. Smell of hotdogs and fried onions wafting throughout the room as revellers enjoyed their pitchers of beer.

Your Fylde TV

We asked our good friend and colleague Lewis from Your Fylde TV to join us and help to capture the atmosphere of the room

Whilst the game was getting going – the room was fairly quiet but as soon as that first goal went in – the crowd really got in the swing of things.

It escalated from there really.

Food

Food was being served from the Kitchen in the corner

Food service was available inside the venue and to be honest it looked really good.

Many of the patrons were opting for the rollover hotdog – however the bucket of wings looked equally as good.

20 Buffalo Chicken Wings – £7.50

Food on the day was advertised in the venue on posters dotted around the room.

Drinks Service

There was a large Bar area for service toward the rear of the room. People were getting served quickly and some at the front of the room were opting for table service from the Bar.

Staff members were taking orders and running drinks out to the tables throughout the time we were there.

Entertainment

Joey Blower was the Master of Ceremonies for the game – assisted by Local DJ Gaz Peck providing musical accompaniment in the form of firm crowd favourites like Carnival de Paris, Sweet Caroline, Three lions and Vindaloo – proper footy songs to get you in the mood.

A Walk on the Wild Side

We took along Blackpool’s Very own Stephen from A Walk on the Wild Side.

Stephen is also a very experienced photographer and managed to snap some images for us whilst her was there too.

His video from inside during the game is available to view below.
