Keeping your kids safe this Halloween is important, especially if they’re at an age where they want to dress up and go trick or treating. Sadly, going out into the local area from door to door isn’t safe and you may find that some homes that your kids may visit may be the residency of elderly people who may not wish to open the door to strangers. Follow our top tips this Halloween to ensure that your kids have the best time.
- Always know where your kids are – If your kids absolutely must go out trick or treating, make sure that you talk to them about the route that they’re going to go and explain to them that not everyone will be accepting of children trick or treating.
- Go with them – if your children are younger, you should always accompany them when they go trick or treating.
- Set a curfew – Trick or treating earlier on in the evening or late afternoon will be much safer than going out late at night. Make sure that your kids go out early and set a sensible curfew time.
- Only visit people you actually know – In movies, your kids may have seen American kids trick-or-treating around the whole neighbourhood, carrying home pillowcases full of goodies. Explain to them that this just isn’t how Halloween is. It would be better for your children to visit only those people that they know in the neighbourhood.
- Find a local party – There are plenty of local Halloween parties that are family friendly. These are either free or cheap and you can be absolutely sure that the whole family will have a great time.
Have a great Halloween and stay safe!
