In the quiet village of Weeton, you’ll find The Eagle & Child pub. It is situated across from the village green.
The pub was built in 1585. Lord Derby used to own the land around the building and so the pub takes its name from his family’s crest. It is one of the oldest pubs still in operation in the North West.
Whilst no one has ever seen the ghost at the Eagle and Child pub, it is said that it is often heard. As the pub has been around for centuries, it’s not a surprise that highwaymen once visited it on their travels. The ghost at the Eagle & Child is thought to be that of a highwayman known only as “Murph”. Murph is heard moaning and wailing late at night in the cellar.
