One of the most popular parties on the Prom is set to go ahead again this year.  The Blackpool Illuminations Switch On Concert will once again be supported by MTV and will take place on Friday 30th August 2019.  This show that takes place annually on the Tower Headlands, is one of the UK’s most popular outdoor shows.

Keep your eyes peeled, as an announcement will be coming in the next few weeks detailing the acts and more importantly, who will actually switch on the lights this year!

Almost 20,000 people attended the event last year, which boasted an awesome line up, featuring the likes of Ella Eyre, Jonas Blue, HRVY, Rae Morris, Diversity featuring DVJ and Club MTV DJs R3wire & Varski.  The lights were switched on by International musician Alfie Boe.

Deputy Leader of Blackpool Council, Councillor Gillian Campbell said “We are thrilled that MTV is associated with the Switch-On celebration for the fourth successive year.

“Last year was a truly memorable night for everyone lucky enough to be in the arena – and I have no doubt that 2019 will be even better!”

Mark Swift of MTV commented that  “We have a very positive, long-standing relationship with VisitBlackpool and are delighted to be returning to support the Blackpool Illuminations Switch-On for the fourth year in a row, in addition to staging Nickelodeon SLIMEFEST in October.”

Planned for the weekend is a Friday night concert that will once again open with a “Blackpool Introduces” segment.  This is a chance for Blackpool to show off some of most promising up and coming stars with some great local acts.  Following this introduction will be the main entertainment followed by the actual Switch-On itself.  It’s not over then though!  An hour long party under the lights will continue into the evening so stick around for the after party!

Last year, the Switch-On event was free for 20,000 lucky winners and the opportunity is back again this year.  The wristbands will allow each person entry to the Tower Headlands concert area.  Winning wristbands are limited to 4 per household.

You have plenty of time to enter, but do it sooner rather than later so that you don’t miss out!  The ballot will close on Monday 29th July at midnight.
