Tomorrow sees a unique event for locals at the Blackpool Transport Tram Depot. The Depot will be opening its doors to the public so that visitors can find out what goes on behind the scenes.
Anyone attending the open event will be able to get on a bus and tram in a safe and quiet setting. This is an opportunity for anyone who has a disability, a carer or a loved one of someone with a disability to ask any accessibility related questions and to find out more about the accessibility features available on local public transport.
Disabled Passengers of All Ages Welcome To Attend
Managing Director at Blackpool Transport, Jane Cole said “We want people who are perhaps a little unsure or anxious about travelling by public transport to come along. We’ll have a bus and a tram safely parked up and visitors will be able to explore the accessible features at their own pace. All of our trams and buses are fully accessible and our team of over 600 staff have all received some form of disability awareness training, covering both physical and hidden disabilities to confidently meet the needs of all of our customers”.
Founder of Disabled Access Day, Paul Ralph said “We’re delighted to have so many friendly and interesting venues taking part in Disabled Access Day this year. The variety of events is exceptional: we’ve got everything from multi-sensory storytelling and beach wheelchair try-outs, to virtual reality exploration, tactile exhibits and more. That there is strong support for Changing Places facilities at all venues is even more encouraging, and I look forward to reading about the experiences of all those taking part in Euan’s Guide reviews after the day.”
When Is The Event?
If you wish to pop along to the Disabled Access Open Day, the depot will be open from 10am-4pm on Saturday 16th March 2019. You don’t need to make a booking, just turn up!
Share Your Experiences
