The BBC have reported a “terror” attack in London; Which seems to have now been contained although police and military officials have locked down parliament.
PC Keith Palmer
PC Keith Palmer was stabbed and later died as a result of his injuries sustained in the gardens of the Palace of Westminster and allegedly a group of ‘french students’ have been ran down on Westminster Bridge at a separate scene just prior to the stabbing. Other witnesses have described hearing 3 shots fired as police were dealing with the situation in Westminster Palace Gardens.
This images was taken of a man whom Police were taking into custody. From the picture it appears that he has suffered a gunshot wound.
The driver of the car is believed to be the same person responsible for breaking into the palace gardens although this has not been confirmed by the Police.
Scotland Yard Statement
A statement from BJ Harrington of Scotland yard has confirmed that this afternoon police responded to 3 main reports of incidents today –
- Person seen going into the river from Westminster Bridge (who was pulled out safely according to the BBC),
- A Vehicle was involved in a collision with pedestrians ON Westminster Bridge
- An Officer was attacked at the Palace of Westminster’s Gardens.
The deputy commissioner of Scotland yard is a significant witness as he was on the scene at the time of the attack.
This is being treated as a terrorist incident and as such Police are responding accordingly.
The operation is being overseen by the Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism Command.
Both Police officers and civilians have been injured in this incident.
The spokesman was not willing to speculate and didn’t take any questions.
Members of the public are being urged to hand over any pictures or videos of the incidents to the police and if ANYONE sees anything suspicious to call 999 immediately. Other information can be sent to the police by calling 0800 789 123.
A cordon has been established around the area and people are being asked to NOT travel to the area including
- Parliament Square
- Whitehall
- Westminster Bridge
- Victoria Street and Broadway
- Lambeth Bridge and the Victoria Embankment
Inside Westminster
A reporter inside Westminster Palace has described how they were holed up with hundreds of other people while officials inspect a suspect package attached to a vehicle although this has not been corroborated elsewhere. The BBC has just reported seeing many people being allowed out of the palace at 16:55.
According to the press association one woman has died in hospital and more have suffered catastrophic injuries resulting from the bridge incident. London Ambulance Service have reported that 10 people have been treated from the Bridge incident.
Parliament and the House of Lords were suspended and locked down. A cordon was placed around the area making travel in the city very difficult.
The Talks at Holyrood regarding second scottish referendum were put on hold for the day also.
