This year’s Ride the Lights event will be taking place on the 29th of August from 7pm to 10pm.
The Ride the Lights event operates every year and it is a family friendly and fun way to preview the illuminations before they are officially switched on. You can ride along the promenade from Starr Gate to Red Bank Road. You don’t have to cycle the entire length if you don’t want to. You can join and exit the route wherever you wish.
There’s no age limit to this event. It’s also not a race. if you want to take it easy, you can.
A first for the Ride the Lights event is a unique opportunity to take a detour. The Pleasure Beach will be open to cyclists and if you take a ride through the Theme Park, you’ll be able to enjoy a LIVE DJ SET. In addition, the kids will be able to meet characters from Nickelodeon and the Pleasure Beach Characters. From 7pm to 10pm, the Pleasure Beach will be open for cyclists only, so make sure that you remember to cycle through for this fun experience.
Whilst the promenade will be closed to vehicles, the trams will still be operational so make sure that you keep an eye out for them. This is especially important in areas of obstructed views like at the Metropole Hotel.
There are some rules when it comes to the Ride the Lights event.
- You MUST have lights on your bike. One white light should be at the front, and one red light should be at the back. If you’ve already got lights on your bike, make sure that they are working before you set off!
- Although it’s not compulsory to wear a helmet, you really should consider doing so. You should also wear clothing that makes you easy to spot.
- All children have to be accompanied by a responsible adult.
- You should be careful around the tramway and keep a look out for trams!
- There will be first aiders and marshalls positioned along the promenade.
- There will be Bike Doctors to assist poorly bikes and support vehicles too.
- Make sure that you plan carefully so that you will be in a safe location when the road is opened again at 10pm.
It’s not too late to start a fundraising campaign. Why not ask for sponsors for your favourite local charity or cause!
Something that’s Brand new and we think you’ll be really impressed with are WING LIGHTS by CYCL. Wing Lights are essentially Indicators for your bike. They fit into any bike which has handlebars and are very bright indicating devices which extend your visibility to motorists on the road. Operated by the touch of a button while you use that particular hand to signal, once you’ve finished signalling – one more touch of the button turns off your signal.
What’s more is that the Editor reached out to Cycle and managed to secure a 10% discount on your orders when you use the promotional code BPLbible10 on the Cycl Website.
